The Legacy of Sister Virginia Edwards

A Loving Wife, Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt & Friend

On March 11, 1928 a baby girl was born to Carrie DeBlanc in Liberty, Texas. She was welcomed home by her two loving brothers Dorea and Jerome.

Sister Virginia gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong member of the Turkey Missionary Baptist Church. She loved God and the Church. Sister Virginia worked diligently in many facets of the church such as the Pastorís Aide, Announcing Clerk, Mission Society, Benevolence Committee, and Program Committee where generations of children attending Turkey Creek can all share fond memories of various programs coordinated by Sister Virginia.

Sister Virginia graduated from Liberty Training High School where she played on the basketball team as well as allowing her theatrical abilities to shine as she performed on the Schoolís Drama Team.

Sister Virginia met the love of her life, Frank Edwards. The two were joined together in Holy Matrimony in March of 1947. The couple was blessed with 4 beautiful daughters and 4 handsome sons.

Sister Virginia spent most of her life as a caregiver where she was a home health care provider in the homes of many throughout Liberty County. She was also a nurseís aide at Yettie Kirsting Hospital and Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She held various other jobs throughout her lifespan, where she was known as being a hard worker with a humble spirit.

She was preceded in death her by her mother, Carrie, her two brothers Dorea Jones, and Jerome DeBlanc, her husband of 62 years, Frank Edwards, and her daughter Mattie Bea Thibodeaux.

Her memory and legacy will be cherished and carried on by her daughters: Charlotte Marie Edwards, Ruth Evelyn Mosley (Don), and Elizabeth Ann Douglas (Wilson), her sons Frank Neal Edwards, Sr.(Laura), Brian Bennett Edwards, Sr. (Betty), Christopher Lydell Edwards, and Darrell Wayne Edwards; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren, her son-in-law Clayton Thibodeaux, one sister-in-law Berneice Redmon (George); Glenda Johnson who she loved as a daughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. Visitation from 9AM until funeral at 11AM at Turkey Creek Baptist Church 1600 Wallisville Road Liberty, TX 77575, Pastor A.K. Thomas Officiating. Interment will be in Wellís Cemetery, Liberty.
